Conference speaking

I am usually delighted to speak at conferences if I have the time. However, please note:

  • For environmental reasons, I prefer not to fly if at all possible. I need to be able to travel to your conference from London in a low-impact way. Sorry, this means I’m likely to decline if you ask me to speak outside western Europe, where I’m based—I hope you understand.

  • There must be a Code of Conduct for all attendees, speakers, and conference staff. The Code of Conduct must demonstrate a commitment to an inclusive and harrassment-free conference environment for people of all genders, skin colours, sexual orientations, religious belief or lack thereof, etc. The example at confcodeofconduct.com is a good place to start. The Code of Conduct must be enforced.

  • COVID-19: I would like to see details of your accommodations for people who are still concerned about COVID-19. Remote options and spaces for people to sit with masks are good.

  • I refuse to present at any conference sponsored by or affiliated with ‘defence’/weapons manufacturing or fossil fuels extraction firms. This is non-negotiable.

Tips for contacting me

  • I am NOT Jonathan T. Rothwell and have nothing to do with Gallup or the Brookings Institute. We have the same name, and are similar-looking white men, but we are not the same person.

  • I WILL NOT:

    • work for your start-up for free, even if you promise me a share in the company. Unlike some people, I need to pay rent and buy food, which requires me to have a job where I am paid in actual money. Don’t even try.

    • write for your website for free.

    • put your infographic on my website.

    • fix your computer.
